Heavy Floods in Mexico Leave Many Dead
A statement from Mexico’s National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) revealed that the casualties have increased following the severe downpours brought by tropical storms Priscilla and Raymond since last week.
The CNPC indicated that the hardest-hit states are Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo, Queretaro, and San Luis Potosi, where 64 fatalities have been confirmed and 65 people remain missing.
During her daily press conference at the National Palace, President Claudia Sheinbaum spoke about the situation, emphasizing that emergency response teams have been fully deployed to support communities affected by the disaster.
Sheinbaum also declared that extra personnel have been sent to the impacted regions to enhance the distribution of vital supplies such as clothing, hygiene kits, potable water, and food.
“We will put our whole heart into the recovery efforts and in supporting those affected by this tragedy,” she expressed.
According to reports from Mexican media, more than 250,000 people have been influenced by what is described as one of the most severe flooding catastrophes in recent memory.
The floods have caused damage to over 50,000 residences across several states.
