Floods in Mexico destroy five states, death toll raised to sixty-four
(MENAFN) Severe flooding caused by heavy rains in Mexico has claimed 64 lives, with 65 people still missing, officials reported on Monday.
The National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) said the floods followed intense rainfall from tropical storms Priscilla and Raymond, which have battered the country since last week. The hardest-hit states are Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo, Queretaro, and San Luis Potosí.
President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the crisis during her daily briefing at the National Palace, confirming that emergency response teams have been fully deployed to assist residents in affected areas. Sheinbaum added that additional personnel have been sent to ensure the delivery of essential supplies, such as drinking water, food, clothing, and hygiene products.
“We will put our whole heart into the recovery efforts and in supporting those affected by this tragedy,” she said.
Local media reported that over 250,000 people have been impacted by the floods, which have also damaged more than 50,000 homes across multiple regions, marking one of the most devastating flood events in recent years.
